Darrell's Ideas

Darrell Roberts might display some of his demos that he has used to get his students stimulated in class. He helped us come up with the cool title for the exhibit, which will be "An Envious Profession: A Day in the Life of An Art Teacher."

Beth's Ideas

Beth Shadur is a community mural artist who directs participants in the creation of a collaborative mural. Her students create the ideas, design, drawing and painting of the mural under her direction. For the exhibit, she would show a project in process with photos of the both the process and finished work, with the actual student created design, accompanied by commentary.

Funny Anime

Dawn Brennan, a teacher at IADT and the Hyde Park Art Center, will show some funny portraits she asked her students to make. They will be inappropriately funny - in that they may poke fun at some well-known public figures.

Still Life Pictures

Another idea I had today for the exhibit was to take some pictures of the still life I set up in my classes and display them on the wall. I may even set up some still lifes in the gallery, so visitors can make sketches of them and then hang them on the wall.

It sure would be nice if some of you people who expressed interest in participating in this exhibit would post some of your ideas here....I'm not naming names but.....don't be scared....

Post ideas here...don't worry if your ideas are rough around the edges. We have some time to refine them. This is supposed to be a brainstorming place.

Calling All Art Teachers

In August 2008, I will host an exhibition of work compiled by art teachers of all ages. Art teachers are encouraged to look back on the years that they have devoted to such a challenging and rewarding occupation and exhibit their reflections at ARC Gallery on Chicago's West Side. Depending upon the response, I may have to limit some of the items included in the exhibit, but would definitely like to organize a few public forums where teachers can come to share ideas.

If you would like to submit a journal entry, a work of art, a video, a found object, pieces of your students' work(s), or anything else you can come up with that enables you to reflect upon your teaching responsibilities, please post your ideas and download an image (if applicable.) You can contact me directly at kaiser@uchicago.edu. I'm a member of ARC Gallery. Check out our website: arcgallery.org
